January 31--Madrid, Spain
This "green wall" or vertical garden is clinging to the wall on one of the buildings of the Caixa Forum. This combination of man made architecture and nature was designed by botanist Patrick Blanc. The plants are grown without any soil and are chosen according to climate as well as native context. Read more about Patrick's passion for green at PingMag.
As of March 2007 all new or newly renovated Spanish buildings must be equipped with solar panels that provide 30 to 70 percent of hot water.
