The new biofuels market has the potential to make a huge difference in Africa's agriculture economy as well as help with the country's Green Revolution. Using farm land for biofuels may attract funds for rural developement. In 2007 Malawi began selling corn to the UN's World Food Program and exported thousands of tons of corn to its neighbors. Had they converted the excess food into biofuel, they would have replaced all of their imported fossil fuel at once and become entirely oil independent.
