February 9--Seattle, Washington, USA
Seattle Architects Matthew Coates and Tim Meldrum won a recent C2C design contest for sustainable housing. One of the contest's guiding principles was,"The home you design must stop the process of taking and begin the process of giving". The house creates energy through a solar collecting photosynthetic plasma skin that is based on spinach protein. The living skin grows and follows the path of the sun. The house also has a vegetated roof system that collects and filters storm water, and uses soy-foam wall panels for insulation.
